What I do for fun...

...is read stuff like this.

All right, so it may not be everyone's cup of tea, but try browsing through some of the discussion. Slashdot often has not only good tech stories but great feedback about its implications. Take a few minutes to look at that link.

To help you get started, here are some posts that particulary got me thinking:

.Well young man, I've just updated my reading of your blog. I haven't written before and it may be awhile before I do again. First I want to recommend a book to you that I have no idea how you will get. "Why I Hate Canadians" was written by Will Ferguson around 1997. It not only entertained me immensely but also caused me to reconsider some of my pro monarchy leanings. You may not know but my major was political science. The British Constitution on which our Canadian system is based was set up unlike the American system to provide for constant change (however slow that might be). Hence our easy move toward gay marriage etc. The Monarchy is the stabilizing feature of our government despite what Parliament and the Courts do in the way of making changes. What Will Ferguson pointed out that really made me reconsider is that if Charles became King we would not be able to use round coins anymore. We would have to add protruberences to accommodate the Mickey Mouse Ears. Actually its a good read. My favourite chapter was about how other nations have chosen symbols such as the Bear, the Eagle and the Rampant Lion while we have chosen an ugly rodent who is constantly causing problems (like eating our Lilac bush and cutting down our birch trees).
I enjoy reading your musings. All of you who Blog will grow for expressing your ideas in writing. Have a great time with your Mom and take good care of her.
Although it may not be appropriate on a blog,
Love
Keith

My dear Uncle, what makes you think i haven't already read it! I picked it up on a whim in Chapters once...truth be told it was a few years ago, and before I had done much traveling abroad, so it is probably worth a revisit.

I will dig it out from the boxes in our basement the next time I'm home! Thank you for your comments and encouragement, they mean a lot to me.

Love,
Christopher
